The
RealFlight R/C Flight Simulator has always been one of the
leaders in flight simulator technology. Its developers, KnifeEdge
Software, have consistently added innovative upgrades to what are some of the most realistic graphics imaginable.
Last March my colleague, Chris Batcheller, reviewed the new
RealFlight version G5 which has now been updated to version G5.5. This latest version adds two new multi-player combat events, a Sky
Grid and new glider launch options just to name a few.
The
new G5.5 also includes several new airplanes and helicopters. Also included is a set of cables so that you can use your existing transmitter with the software which is compatible with All JR and newer Futaba radios (with the square trainer plug).

*
New Planes, Helis, Color Schemes, and Flight Failure Scenarios
*
Timer Gadget
*
New Glider Launch Options
*
TruFlo Wind Dynamics?
DeadRinger and Hardcore Combat:
In the new DeadRinger mode, you fly an obstacle course. The object is to be the first one to fly through all of the rings - While the others are shooting at you! In Hardcore Combat, high G turns will cause your vision to fade, or you can completely black out!
Sky Grid:
Turn on the Sky Grid and a colored grid will appear on the sky to help you align precision maneuvers.
Overhead Gadget:
To help you find your way back home, the Overhead Gadget superimposes a site map over the terrain, showing your location and the location of the runway.
New Planes, Helis, Color Schemes, and Flight Failure Scenarios:
Updates include the versatile Westland Lynx, new graphics and paint schemes, plus an option to set up random heli failures to keep your skills sharp!
Timer Gadget:
A stopwatch will appear on screen in a countdown or count up mode.
New Glider Launch Options:
Now you can use a Bungee Launch or Aerial Tow with automatic release!
TruFlo Wind Dynamics?:
You can now control the wind's direction and speed and whether you'll encounter clear skies or occasional turbulence. More advanced thermal modeling makes soaring more realistic than ever.
