Modeler's Notes: I have always liked the look of the Littorio class battleships, and chose to model the Vittorio Veneto because of its interesting splinter camouflage scheme. Regia Marina makes a fine 1/700 scale resin kit of the Littorio which can also be built as the Vittorio Veneto.
The kit is resin and came with four stainless steel photo-etch sheets. I decided to model the ship in its mid 1943 configuration when it carried the aforementioned light gray and dark gray splinter scheme and red and white aircraft recognition stripes on the bow.
This project involved many firsts for me. It was my first attempt at a resin kit, it was my first attempt at this small of a scale (1/700) and it was my first attempt at a camouflage pattern on a warship. The total construction time was 14 months and over 400 hours.
